Salting steaks prior to grilling ensures that the steak is tender. Both sides of the steak are salted and then stored in an open container in the refrigerator for three hours. After the salt has been given an opportunity to tenderized the meat, the steak is then grilled to perfection. It is also acceptable to add spices to the salt sprinkle. Parsley, onion flakes, garlic and red pepper are popular additions.
